Since the 1970s, this cooperatively run vegetarian café and shop in the heart of student land has been quietly and effectively standing its ethical ground. Back in the day, it was seen as a place where cranks would go to get some food, if they had the strength to open the front door and pick up a fork. Now that standards like fairtrade and anti-animal testing have become mainstream, it's clear that the place has been pioneering, normalising what was once considered weird (like vegetarian lasagne). Crucially though, it’s also just a great place to hang out and eat something delicious and stock up on products that are good for you and the planet. No biggy.
