Last night, did you dream you went to Manderley?

It's highly unlikely, but it might be the case that you know those words, or at least what they refer to, so engrained is the haunting tale of a woman living in the shadow of her husband's first dead wife.

Of course as the first film that Hitchcock made in Hollywood, most of us have come to the story via that, but this adaptation goes back to the novel as its source and, with some stunning sets, really does evoke the romance, suffering and threat of the original.
