Anthropology Speaker Series: Mummies Inside And Out says
The time has come for the second edition of Orland Science Center's four-part Anthropology Speaker Series, featuring guest lecturers from the University of Central Florida.

Adventure into the past with Dr. Sandra Wheeler for a talk that will explore the scientific approach to the study of mummies, from observation methods to historical, biochemical, and radiology techniques. These approaches have provided great insight into the various methods used in the mummification process itself; additionally, they have provided more detailed information on the health and well-being of ancient people than ever before.

Dr. Wheeler is a lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at the Univerity of Central Florida. Dr. Wheeler received her Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Western Ontario in 2009 and joined the UCF faculty in 2010. Her current research focuses on the bioarchaeological analyses of infants, synthesizing information from social, cultural, and natural environments to better understand children’s lives and deaths in the past. This transitions into her research on ancient birthing practices, maternal health, disease, and mortuary landscapes. Her current and upcoming fieldwork moves back to Egypt and examines patterns of health and disease, trauma, and mortuary practices.
