This class is about bee-centric biodynamic beekeeping based on honey bee/ bee stewardship and education. Students will be introduced to honey bee biology, colony dynamics, importance of comb, the colony as a super organism, native bees, beekeeping equipment and clothing, honey bee parasites, hive type variations, native bee homes, hive location and installation, nucs vs. packages, common honey bee parasites, integrated pest management (IPM), backyard/urban beekeeping, laws and registrations....plus much more.

There will be a multimedia presentation, a live honey bee observatory and fresh harvested, raw honey from Scout Bee for sale. There will be a list of recommended books, supply catalogs/companies and helpful websites. Students will also receive 1 on 1 beekeeping Q&A after class over drinks at Dandelion if requested.

* Open hive demo - class instructor will give an open hive demo with an example of a typical hive check. **WEATHER PERMITTING**

There will be lots of visual examples and check lists covered with a multimedia presentation, as well as raw honey from Scout Bee available for purchase. There will be a list of recommended books, supply catalogs/companies and helpful websites. Students will also receive 1 on 1 beekeeping Q&A after class over drinks at Dandelion if requested.

This promises to be a very detailed, info-packed class; students will learn everything they need to begin beekeeping right away.

Instructor: Pam Treadwell
Pam is a Florida native and has been an Audubon Park, Fl. resident for over 20 years. She is a registered Florida Beekeeper and part of the University of Florida Master Beekeeping Program. Pam conducts regular live removals for local property owners, municipalities, power companies, and tree services.
