7 PM - Cocktail hour with private tour of exhibition.
8 PM - Dinner in the gallery with curator Dr. Deborah Willis.

'Posing Beauty in African American Culture' explores the contested ways in which African and African American beauty have been represented in historical and contemporary contexts through a diverse range of media including photography, film, video, and fashion. Posing Beauty in African American Culture challenges contemporary understandings of beauty by framing notions of aesthetics, race, class, and gender within art, popular culture, and politics.

Ph.D., chair of the Department of Photography & Imaging at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, and Professor at the College of Arts and Sciences, Africana Studies, Professor Willis has been the recipient of Guggenheim, Fletcher, and MacArthur fellowships, the Infinity Award in Writing from the International Center for Photography, and recipient of the Anonymous Was a Woman Foundation Award. Named one of the “100 Most Important People in Photography” by American Photography magazine she is one of the nation’s leading historians of African American photography.

This dinner is a fundraiser for Snap! Cultural Events, a Florida 501(c)(3) organization, whose mission is to celebrate master photographers, cultivate emerging talent, and enhance the cultural vibrancy of the City of Orlando. http://snaporlando.com
