Sometimes, good things come to people who don't want to wait. American Express Openair Cinemas is returning to Ozone Reserve more than six months ahead of schedule to bring alfresco movie fun to Perth this spring, launching on September 4. The change is in response to a survey that discovered that Perthlings were craving something fun to do right after winter ends and that March, when the screenings formerly took place, tended to be packed enough already.
The season of movies, food, drink and fun will see the screening of recent box office hits and new releases, including Elton John biopic Rocketman, Beatles-inspired fantasy Yesterday, Quentin Tarantino's latest opus Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and the high-octane action of Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw.
Family films getting a showing include The Lion King, Aladdin, The Secret Life of Pets 2 and Toy Story 4. There are two Australian documentaries on the program – the inspiring 2040 and the eye-opening The Australian Dream. Acclaimed new female-led comedy Booksmart is the opening night film, and a screening of retro high school comedy Clueless will have moviegoers nostalgic for the 1990s.
The bar will be stocked with Giesen Wines, 4Pines craft beer, Pimms and Enjoy Water, and the Sultan Pepper food truck with be on hand with Middle Eastern cuisine.
Weekend screenings will feature live music and DJ performances ahead of the film, and Wine Wednesdays will see romcoms paired with Giesen Wines sampling and happy hour prices.
