By any measure the Swan River is a beautiful setting for a city and one way to experience it is via this energetic six-kilometre walk. Start at the carpark on Riverside Drive and head north along the foreshore, through Victoria Gardens and Mardalup Park till you get to the Windan Bridge. Cross over and head back down south along the riverbank through Chevron Parkland and past Optus Stadium and Crown Perth to Charles Paterson Park and back over the Causeway Bridge, crossing over Herron Island.

You can stop in East Perth for a coffee in one of the many cafés. You're looking at a three-hour walk, or one hour by bike. And for heaven's sake don't forget a hat and sunscreen and to keep hydrated.
