Meet some of the industry’s most talented artists, explore the craftsmanship behind tattooing and get inked at the three-day Australian Tattoo Expo. Celebrating old-school illustration, innovative techniques and all things ink-related, the Australian Tattoo Expo will take place at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre with more than 250 tattoo artists on site.
Local artists including Perth’s Lauren Melina, Melbourne artist Kristian Kimonides, Jackson May and Leisure Bandit will join a huge list of artists showing off their best work. The festival is a primo opportunity to discover the next artist to ink your skin – or maybe even the first. Keen tattoo enthusiasts can even get a tatt done on the spot; if you'd rather sleep on it however you can still pick up prints and merch from your fave artists.
The 2018 Perth leg of the Australian Tattoo Expo features a couple of firsts. The expo's charity partner, non-profit organisation Survivor's Ink, will be at the expo for the first time to showcase their work providing free cosmetic tattooing to breast cancer survivors. The 2018 festival will also feature the Perth debut of the Sh!ttest Tattoo competition where owners of regretable tatts can face off for a prize.
Everyone is welcome – families, artists, tattoo veterans and total newbies – and there will be loads of entertainment, merchandise and more. Watch artists go needle-to-skin against each other when they compete in the third leg of the 2018 Australian Tattoo Series. Moreover, pyro performers Fuel Girls will be showing off their fiery talent on stage, while streetwear brand Sullen Clothing will be hosting the Sullen Angels competition.
Early bird tickets are $29 and available until midnight on Tuesday, 11 September ($35 general entry).
