If you’re looking for an excuse to get all dolled up, why not explore Perth’s oh-so-sophisticated high tea scene? We’re talking scones with jam and cream, crisp cucumber sandwiches and dainty decorated cakes – honestly, what more could you want?

The British tradition of high tea originated among England’s most affluent during the 1840s. It was during the latter part of the 19th century that the tradition was embraced by both the upper and middle classes.

Step out of the chaos of city life and into elegance with bespoke cocktails and a seasonally inspired high tea at The Westin’s Haven Lounge. The thoughtfully curated menu changes every two months with themes including 'A Winter in New York', 'Cherry Blossom Pink' and 'Dreamlike-Pastel Garden'. Unlimited coffee and tea are included or you can raise a toast to a glass of Chandon NV Brut for an extra $10 or a glass of Moët and Chandon Brut Imperial Champagne for $20.

Located in the heart of Crown Metropol and drawing inspiration from the enchanting bistros of Paris, Bistro Guillaume presents a high tea fusing modern and French classics. With its French provincial surroundings, chequerboard flooring and a view of the resort-style pool, the chic lime-green dining room oozes a luxe vacation feel. From 2pm on Saturdays, guests can enjoy Guillaume’s decadent afternoon tea featuring chocolate tarts, macarons and éclairs, along with smoked salmon tartlets, duck pithiviers, crab sandwiches, and chicken Waldorf baguettes. The traditional high tea is $65 per person with tea and coffee, or $80 with a glass of Moët and Chandon Brut Imperial Champagne.

If you’re looking for a sophisticated way to style your Saturday, then mosey on down to Fleur for their ‘Afternoon Bloom’ high tea. You’ll be placing down $75 per person, which includes a glass of Prosecco upon arrival and a set menu featuring the best of savoury and sweet. Think tomato fondue on rye, cured salmon on potato rosti, wattleseed churros and burnt honey tarts. 

When: Saturday, 12.30-1.30pm

If you’re searching for a high tea with spectacular panoramic views over the Swan River, then look no further. C Restaurant in the Sky caters for all tastes and preferences with a selection of finger sandwiches, petit fours, bite-sized savouries and freshly baked scones, coupled with fresh coffee and ten fine tea blends. You can even bring the kids along and treat them to C’s bite-sized Children’s High Tea package for $45 per child.

The south-eastern wing of the historically steeped State Buildings is home to COMO The Treasury’s luxe high tea. Your afternoon will be a journey of sensory exploration featuring this season’s finest local producers, including Bannister Downs Dairy, Teaessential matcha and Torre Butchers ham. Start on the bottom tier with smoked salmon rye tartlets, ham and pea croquettes, and egg sandwiches, before working your way through matcha choux buns, citrus cheesecakes, and chocolate and peanut delices. All treats will be served with your choice of tea or filter coffee, with Champagne or specialty cocktails available as add-ons from $15. The tea blends featured on the menu have been carefully curated in collaboration with Teassential – a Western Australian tea company located within the State Buildings.

Tired of the same old high tea shenanigans? Head to Fight Club, the social darts bar reinventing the English tradition. For $79 per person, you’ll enjoy two hours of bottomless bullseyes along with bottomless sandwiches, cream cheese bagels, tiramisu slices, passion fruit cheesecake, buttermilk scones and more. Plus, each player will receive their own bottle of bubbles to guzzle and complimentary carafes of orange juice (Mimosas, anyone?). PS: The menu caters to vegans, vegetarians and gluten-free friends.

Renowned for its sensational food and world-class wine, the Swan Valley is close enough to be enjoyed as a day trip while still radiating that ‘far away’ feel. Pop into the Mrs Rabbit Tearooms on your next citybreak for high tea consisting of beetroot, feta and herb puffs; cheese and bacon scones; cucumber and mint sandwiches; petit fours; and of course, scones with jam and cream. You can also order à la carte high tea with more than ten scone varieties to play with, plus cakes, waffles, sandwiches and warming pots of tea.

Sizzle up your weekend with a decadent High Tea experience, including an alluring selection of savoury and petite desserts. As everything is made in-house, the team can cater to special dietary requirements with a minimum notice of 48 hours. You’re in for a treat with delights, including cheese and chive scones, pesto and cheddar croissants, berry financiers, and coconut dacquoise mousse. Takeaway high tea boxes are also available from Tuesday to Sunday, between 8 am and 4 pm for an affordable $40 per person.
