Black Swan State Theatre Company says
Witness the debut of six new plays by WA's hottest emerging writers!

Six WA playwrights of exceptional talent and promise were selected to write an original play that showed creative bravery and an urgency of voice, as part of Black Swan's Emerging Writers Group. Now, following an intensive period of development and mentoring, they are ready to take their scripts to the next level!

Come and be part of the audience at these FREE public readings by our next generation of creative writers.

Featuring scripts by Zoe Hollyoak, Izaak Lim, Finn O’Branagain, Zoe Pepper, Mararo Wangai and Mikala Westall, whose diverse works span a variety of genres and themes from Speculative Fiction, Surreal Comedy, Intergenerational and Interracial Romance and even a comedy about Mental Health.

Immediately after each reading the audience will be invited to engage in discussion with the writers about the work. Playwrights will also be eligible to win a cash prize, including continued support and development from Black Swan.

The aim of the Emerging Writers Group is to create work that is of international standard and suited for future production by Black Swan - and to date Black Swan has presented several EWG works, including Chris Isaacs' Flood, Gita Bezard's Girl Shut Your Mouth, Will O’Mahony's Tonsils + Tweezers and Nathaniel Moncrieff's A Perfect Specimen. By attending these readings, you could be among the first to hear a future Black Swan production!
