Canvas says
We know that a picture is supposed to be worth 1000 words, but we don’t buy it. So, at our next event, CANVAS, we want you to show us something...
We want a portrait, whether it’s you or someone else. We want a landscape, whether it’s of the small town you grew up in or the big world we live in. We want your romantic, surreal, minimalist, impressionistic and expressionistic poems. We want you to write in colour. We don’t just want to hear your poems: we want to see them. Tell us what you think art is. Show us what you think art is. Paint us a picture and prove that you don’t need 1000 words: five minutes and a microphone is more than enough.

Incidentally, this event marks the 2 year anniversary of Spoken Word Perth. We don’t want to make a big fuss, but if you have a favourite memory of the event that you want to share alongside a poem, we’d love to hear it. If you want to bring balloons or party hats, that also works.

Join us on WEDS, 31st AUGUST at the Paper Mountain Gallery. TEN OPEN MIC SPOTS AVAILABLE, five minutes each. Five will be available on our Facebook an hour before the event and five at the venue itself. Spots are first-come, first-serve and fill up fast, so make sure to be on time if you want to secure one.
Of course, we’ll also be bringing you two more excellent feature poets to muse over this time…Local painter, poet and teen, MELISSA CLEMENTS and equally local potter, (said) poet and marginally-older person, SARAH URE will both be performing at CANVAS.

MC/Human Fruit, JESSIE APPLEYARD will also be on hand to introduce performers, illustrate abstract concepts like love and paint Harry Potter-esque, semi-sentient moving portraits of anyone who requests it.

For now, you can keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram (@spokenwordperth) for more from our features in the lead up to the event, but, until then, we hope to see you.
Doors at 19:00.
Performance starts 19:30
Entry $5.
