Tura New Music’s Club Zho ventures upstairs to Babushka Leederville for a celebration of Australian improvisation. Melbourne based Peter Knight, Artistic Director of the Australian Art Orchestra, brings about a fusion of experimental and jazz music and the music of other cultures to produce an extraordinarily distinctive sound, passing his trumpet playing through complex electronic processing. Reforming a recent collaboration are local electro-acousticians Stuart James and Lindsay Vickery, projecting instrumental flourishes amidst spectral sheets of sound in a trio alongside Peter Knight. All this supported by local experimental harpist Catherine Ashley performing new music employing improvisation, extended technique and acute sonic detail.
