Professor Erika J Techera - Moving beyond “The Unnatural history of the sea”
Humans have been inextricably linked to the oceans since the very earliest of times. Our interactions have and continue to be varied: positive and negative, sustainable and destructive, consumptive and protective, recreational and commercial. Current projected increases in population together with massive industrial activities are placing unprecedented pressures on our seas; yet we have the knowledge and tools to overcome the challenges if we have the courage and will to do so. This talk will explore the history of our interactions with the sea, the escalation of marine impacts and hopes for the future of our oceans.
