Hosted by The Antipoet

For years, Slams in Perth have been a breeding ground for some of the best poetic talents in the city. Every year bigger and stronger voices rock the stage and in 2015, WA sent two emerging spoken word superstars to Sydney, Maddie Godfrey, now taking the London scene by storm and Zainab Syed who's spreading the word of slam in Pakistan. Perth Slam wants to foster slam and spoken word culture in WA so we can keep giving stage to powerful voices.

Basically a poetry slam is the competitive art of Performance Poetry! We base our rules on the Australian Poetry Slam.

Slam contestants are given a microphone, a live audience and just two minutes to impress the judges with their original spoken word, poetry, hip hop, monologues and stories.

Five judges are picked randomly by the MC. After each performance, judges hold up score cards using a 1- 10 scale, with 10 being the highest.

Of the five scores for each poet, only the middle three scores are counted. The judges’ decisions are final!

And at the end of the night, the poet with the most points takes a cut of the door!
