Spoken Word Perth says
This week, in a special, unregularly-scheduled event as part of the WA Poets Inc - Perth Poetry Festival, we’ll be looking back over the past year of Spoken Word Perth. We’ll be seeing some faces from our past. We’’ll be celebrating the hits. And we’ll be calling it WONDERWALL...

At Wonderwall, we want you to bring THAT poem. The one you’re famous for, even if it’s only to yourself. We want you to bring your favourite poem; the best one you’ve ever written; your most-you poem. And we want you to perform the hell out of it.

And if you don’t like THAT poem anymore? If you’re bored of that poem? If you wrote it too long ago and you’ve read it so many times that it’s just a lot of words to you now? If it’s just not you anymore? We want you to change it up. Put a new coat of metaphor on it. Give your sad poem some energy or your happy poem some soulfulness. Give it a melody and make it into lyrics. Give it a new ending or a new beginning or a new best line. Give THAT poem whatever it needs to make you love it again and then get up on the mic and make us love it too.

Join us on WEDS 10th AUGUST, the day we’re gonna throw it back to you. EIGHT OPEN MIC SPOTS AVAILABLE, five minutes each. Four will be available on our Facebook an hour before the event and four at the venue itself. Spots fill up fast, so make sure to be on time if you want to secure one.

Speaking of throwbacks, this week we have not a mere one or two features, but a mighty seven feature poets for you, all ghosts of Spoken Words past... MATT NORMAN, LUKA BUCHANAN, JESSE GARICK, JACOB KEMP, LENI BATTALIS, THE Laundry Man and ALEX BIDDLE will all be returning to the Spoken Word Perth microphone to perform short sets throughout the night. Expect Clichés and antidotes. Expect Sheets and Covers and Fluids. Expect Habits and Beacons and more Fluids as we journey back through the past 8 months of performances using words as a boat, or a map, or something.

Special Guest MC, BECKY MONKS will be on hand to open up the open mic, introduce all your favourite performers (old and new) and breakdance whenever someone shouts out the special code word. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram (@spokenwordperth) for more from Becky and our features in the lead up to the event.
