Within certain earthy, classy parameters, Colin Meloy and Co. have always had an exploratory side, looking for new angles on their brainy, slyly saucy rock and roll. But the new Decemberists record, I’ll Be Your Girl, has a few extra surprises, such as the poppy/postpunky lead single, “Severed.”
