In 1966, jazz legend John Coltrane gave his next-to-last Philadelphia performance at the Church of the Advocate, located at 1801 W. Diamond Street. This February marks the 50th anniversary of the release of his monumental album, A Love Supreme. On February 28th at 8:00pm, the musicians of Prometheus Chamber Orchestra will bring the music of John Coltrane back to its North Philadelphia home with their arrangement of A Love Supreme for string orchestra. The program also includes George Gershwin’s Lullaby and the world premiere of Jazz Violin Concerto No. 1, an improvised violin concerto written by Philadelphia-based jazz violinist and composer, Joseph Arnold.
Curated by Thomas La Forgia.
