Q Flix Fridays: A Monthly Film Screening Party

Advertising

Time Out says

Join us every fourth Friday of the month as qFLIX Philadelphia, the region's LGBTQ film festival, turns Ascend Lounge @ TavernOn Camac into a black box theater for a FREE monthly DVD screening party. The Friday evening parties will be offering $6 Absolut mixed drink specials, $3 assorted beers, door prizes and giveaways, film feedback, all in an informal but inviting way to share movie going with others who love movies. qFLIX Fridays is open to the public, and always free of charge. This month we are screening Mark Thiedeman’s "Last Summer" (February 27), which tells the story of two high school sweethearts, Luke (Samuel Pettit) and Jonah (Sean Rose) “spending their final months together over the course of a long, quiet summer in the rural South, and [each] contemplating their uncertain future [in America].” Opposites attract. The artistic, sensitive, quiet Johan prepares to leave their small town for college but doesn’t want to leave Luke behind. The athlete, more hometown boy, Luke doesn’t want Johan to leave but knows that he has greater ambition in the bid wide world. “Their love story is set against a world of baseball fields, bicycles, church, and seemingly conservative values, though the boys never face adversity from their community. Instead, they fit directly into the fabric of their all-American town.” Filmmaker Magazine called it “a masterpiece.” LA Weekly warned, “Don’t be surprised if you’re haunted days later.” Hope to see you at the movies.
