An interdisciplinary system, Sophomore Project is designed to help students recognize the tools and methodologies used in both dance creation and performance. The Top by UArts Dance Artists with No Face Performance Group A work in progress that has been developed in a UArts course with No Face Performance Group that challenges students and makers to create, collaborate, and investigate various ways of generating movement and ideas to share and perform. 901 Nowhere Street by Sam Tower & Ensemble It all started a couple of days ago, at a little joint called Ermine’s. Danger was in the air from the start. Under smoky lights, the truth becomes unreliable. Fantasy trumps reality. Apparitions populate the night. Three ill-fated dames find themselves swept up in a bizarre exploit of murder, greed, and entrapment. This is an excerpt of an evening-length performance that will premiere in the 2015 Neighborhood Fringe Festival. monster (a work-in-progress) by Megan Mazarick This solo was born out of a very amplified experience during Mazarick’s residency as a choreographer in Egypt. She is looking for a way to dance that is pixelated and digitized, using fast-forward, rewind, freeze-frame, where time can stand still or reverse itself, and is interested in exploring movement that addresses female identity in new ways. There will be a good deal of wrestling with multiple alter egos. VOCÍO (a practice) by Massimiliano Balduzzi Through research with invented language, Massimiliano is investigating what linguistic sound or sequences of sounds can communicate. Without the constriction of a given meaning and through work on rhythm, impulse, sound resistance, and the very origins of sound, Massimiliano is searching for the voices that live unheard under the skin. If spoken language is the method of human communication, what are the linguistic expectations and the somatic potentials at play in this communicative act?
