Union Project says
In today’s world our differences still divide us and biases can lead to violence. In tense situations, how can we choose to act non-violently?

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a vision of the Beloved Community - where all are welcome regardless of race, age, identity, expression, or belief. The Beloved Community exists when people join together and actively choose love and nonviolence. This work was just as radical and relevant then as it is today.

Since 2001, Union Project has been using the arts to bridge gaps between communities. Join us and continue the work Dr. King started decades ago - creating a community fueled by agape love and nonviolence.

2:30 pm Doors Open

3:00 pm An open discussion about how we define community as individuals - with facilitators Jay Oriola and Aerion Abney.

4:30 pm Group arts activities that allow us to express ways in which we can better love our neighbors - with creative partners Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse, Maritza Mosquera, and Christy Owens.

5:30 pm A free community meal where we break bread and reflect together. Food by Community Kitchen Pittsburgh, the menu will include Mexi Rice, Apple Slaw, and Panzennella.

Come listen, share, and create with an open mind and a peace-filled heart.

Union Project is committed to being accessible to all. There will be ASL interpreters on site. Union Project is wheelchair accessible via our Stanton Avenue door. Please let us know what accommodations we can make to ensure your experience is positive, contact Michelle Clesse at 412-363-4550 or michelle@unionproject.org if you have specific accommodations or needs.

Looking for activities during the day? Union Project will be out in the community providing hands-on clay activities at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh.

The 14th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration is supported by our sponsors at Bridgeway Capital, Maher Duessel, PNC Bank, our media sponsors 90.5 WESA and 91.3fm WYEP , and our arts project sponsor Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse. Thank you!
