Roberta Smith has been a critic at the New York Times since 1986 and is viewed as one of the most forthright critics today, who not only evaluates contemporary art but also addresses decorative arts, popular and outsider art, design, and architecture. Her commanding reviews have appeared in the Village Voice, Artforum, Art in America, and Arts Magazine. Smith has contributed essays to museum catalogs including Donald Judd, Alex Katz, Elizabeth Murray and Cy Twombly. The National Endowment has acknowledged her critical writing and she received the Frank Jewett Mather Award for Art Criticism from the College Art Association.
