Center for PostNatural History says
Visiting researcher Dominic Walker from Exeter University in the UK will discuss the research he has been conducting during his stay in Pittsburgh. Refreshments will be served.

How do space, process and practice overlap? Starting on a journey from Victorian England to present-day Pittsburgh, I consider the integration of these three areas as manifest in collectors. I consider the integration as manifest in institutions, in geographical and artistic practices and thinkers, and in my own personal research. Finally I arrive at the Center for PostNatural History here in Pittsburgh which serves as a fitting example on which to conclude. I consider questions pertaining to visibility and obscurity, presence and absence, re-contextualisation and re-interpretation, and the authority and autonomy of objects themselves. How can experimental spaces, such as the Center, help highlight some of these relationships, and to whom might they speak? Further, how can relations between geography and artistic practice help highlight the relationship between visibility and obscurity, to name but one area? These issues and more shall be addressed in the talk, hosted in the mystique and wonder of the Hall of PostNatural History in the belly of the Center itself.
