Carnegie Museum of Art says
Explore Iran’s rich cultural and artistic history with Soude Dadras, visiting scholar at the University of Pittsburgh. Meet in the Carnegie Café for light breakfast and coffee, then join Dadras for an illustrated talk. Looking back into ancient times and the origins of motifs still found in many of the most significant hand-crafts, including the development of Persian carpet, she discusses overlaps of motifs found among cultures; delves into culturally important calligraphic and musical works; and touches upon traditional dress and costumes. Coffee with the Expert is an exclusive, members-only warm-up to Dadras’s four-session art history class scheduled for July.

About the speaker: Visiting Iranian arts scholar Soude Dadras specializes in the history of Iranian hand-weaving including Persian carpets of which she is a practitioner. Her ongoing research includes ancient Iranian portraits and the goddess sculpture in ancient Persia. She was resident carpet expert at the Iranian Carpet Museum in Tehran, and was a founder and board member of the Carpet Society at Islamic Azad University. She has lectured extensively on the history of Iranian art at international institutions including the Kyoto City International Foundation in Kyoto, Japan.
