First Hate

One of Denmarks most hyped acts of 2016, synth-pop duo First Hate from Copenhagen consisting of Anton Falck and Joakim Nørgaard. Combine lo-fi synthetically programmed melodies and drum beats fused with live keyboard recordings, Gansted’s deep reverb drained vocals are at the forefront of the bands sound. In September 2014, the band released their self titled debut EP ‘First Hate’ on Canadian label Bad Actors Inc. In support of the EP the band toured with producer Trentemøller on his tour of eastern Europe (October 2014) and with fellow Mayhem residents Iceage in the UK (April 2015). March 4th 2016 saw the release of their second EP ‘The Mind Of A Gemini’ which was released on Copenhagen label Escho.

It is a misconception that pop music should be carefree. This is the feeling one gets by venturing into the shining, dark pop universe Bastian Emil has created with Grand Prix. The presumption of pop music is re-created and appears now as dark and majestic. ”Gasoline is floating in my veins / and bold decision is my name” he sings, and adds ”No one will save me”. Beauty and death goes hand in hand with Grand Prix - this is march music, requiem, and love songs at the same time. It wants to encourage the listener to be the emperor, to feel like a greek god. It is the music that accompanies race cars running beyond abyss, or as Bastian Emil puts it: music for people with fast and sensitive hearts.
