Please come out and join us for a FREE community showing of 2016 Best Picture Winner "MOONLIGHT."

Moonlight tells, for the first time, a coming of age story of a Black boy/young man navigating the challenges of growing up in inner city Miami while coming to terms with his sexual identity. Moonlight is the first "Black" film to win an Academy Award for Best Picture not focused on slavery. It is only one of two Black films ever nominated for best picture set after the Civil Rights movement of the early '60s. It and Precious, are also the only two best picture nominees not primarily telling a story through the lens of racism, slavery or Jim Crow oppression.

Moonlight was written, directed and produced by Black individuals and features an all Black cast. Best Supporting Actor winner, Mahershala Ali, for his role as Juan in Moonlight, is the first Muslim to win an Oscar.
