Lecture Title: "The Timken's Icons in a New Light"

Wendy Salmon shares the Timken's plans for expanding and reinterpreting its installation of Russian icons, and discusses some of the challenges associated with incorporating icons into a collection of Western European paintings.

Dr. Wendy Salmond is a professor of art history in the Department of Art at Chapman University. Her publications include Arts and Culture in Late Imperial Russia: Reviving the Kustar Art Industries, Treasures into Tractors: The Selling of Russia's Cultural Heritage, 1918-1938 (co-edited with Ann Odom) and Tradition in Transition: Russian Icons in the Age of Romanovs. Her current project explores the lives of Russian icons in American museums.
