The event creator says
The San Diego PoetrySLAM is slowly becoming one of the nation’s premiere poetry slam venues. It provides a space for poets of all skill levels to fellowship and support each other in a competitive atmosphere while facilitating a transformational experience for the audience.

A poetry slam is a competition at which poets read or recite original work. These performances are then judged on a numeric scale by previously selected members of the audience.

The San Diego Poetry Slam is a poetry competition that occurs on the 2nd Monday of every month

Slam Rules:

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

The slam is open to anyone who would like to participate.

HOW MANY POEMS SHOULD I HAVE?

Poems must be original and written by the performer. All participants should have 3 poems prepared.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

All those who would like to participate in the slam can sign up on the list as soon as the doors open. The list fills up quickly so early arrival is recommended.

JUDGING:

Judges will be selected randomly from the audience and will score each poet on a scale of 0 to 10.

QUALIFIERS:

Qualifiers are 2 round slams that will occur once a month from September to March. In each qualifier, poets will be given the opportunity to perform 1 original poem in the first round, and the top scorers will advance to the second round where they will perform another original poem.
