Spring Showcase: Born To Dance says
Kick off your weekend with a breathtaking exhibit of stunning spins and crazy choreography in BORN TO DANCE (New Zealand), part of the 6th Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival Spring Showcase, presented by Pacific Arts Movement.

We'll be screening BORN TO DANCE at 5:30 p.m., Friday, April 29 and at 3:15 p.m., Saturday, April 30.

In New Zealand's first dance movie, Tu may have been born to dance, but tell that to his dad, a traditionalist who wants his son in the army, not a dance crew. Tell that to the world-renowned K-Crew, whose members have their suspicions about this kid from the wrong side of the tracks. And tell that to his old friends, who are starting to think Tu’s ambitions are getting to his head. But nobody can tell Tu to pop or pump to any beat other than his own heart’s, and nobody who witnesses his potential and his work ethic will leave uninspired by the brilliance of his commitment.

BORN TO DANCE perfects the dance film formula, tackling harsh truths about class and labor, while dazzling with routine after routine as spectacular as any on screen today. Choreographed with passion and verve by the acclaimed Parris Goebel (Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, BIGBANG), and directed with emotional power moves by Tammy Davis, the film shines a bright light on the New Zealand dance scene and some of its most dynamic Maori stars.
