UC San Diego Health System and The Center will present a special forum, Ensuring the Health of the LGBTQ Community, on Wednesday, April 8 at 6:30 pm at The Center. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about UCSD Health and its commitment to the community; UCSD’s Owen Clinic which is one of the nation’s top HIV care programs; and PrEP, the once-a-day medication that is used to prevent HIV infection.

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Center is located at 3909 Centre St. in Hillcrest.

Speakers include:

Lawrence Friedman, MD, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at UCSD Health. In this role he is responsible for the management oversight of ambulatory quality,safety and primary care (QSPC), managed care, occupational medicine and telemedicine; he also serves as the CEO of International Clinical Programs.

Charles Hicks, MD, board-certified in internal medicine and infectious disease. He provides primary care, including preventive care and diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic diseases for adults with HIV and AIDS. Dr. Hicks is director of UC San Diego Health System’s Owen Clinic.

Sheldon Morris, MD, MPH, board-certified family medicine doctor. He provides primary care for patients of all ages, including preventive care and treatment of acute and chronic diseases. He has special training in preventive medicine. Dr. Morris has served on the faculty of UC San Diego School of Medicine since 2006 and is currently involved in clinical practice, teaching and research.

Following the presentations, there will be time for community members to ask questions of the panelists.
