If it feels like a challenge to keep the kids occupied over the long summer holiday months, the BFI’s Escapes initiative is here to help.
Launched in 2024, Escapes uses National Lottery funding to offer free screenings of a new movie at independent cinemas across the UK.
The latest movie to get the Escapes treatment is Savages on July 21-22. Claude Barras’ much-praised new animation currently sits on a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
It will be screening at more than a hundred independent cinemas across the UK, from The Lexi in London to Chester’s Storyhouse.
The stop-motion filmmaker behind 2016’s My Life As A Courgette, Barras’ latest is a colourful, vibrant adventure story with a stirring ecological message. It’s set in Borneo’s rainforest and follows a young girl and a baby orangutan as they’re caught between
The movie is being released in both its original French language version and a family-friendly English dubbed version.
Head to the official site for participating cinemas and timings.
Savages won’t be in UK and Ireland cinemas until August 1, so it’s the perfect chance to catch it early – and entirely for free.
