Time Out says
An annual river marathon race to find the Traditional Boat Champions. Around 300 crews take part and, like London's running marathon, these range from series sports people sailors in absurd fancy dress. Vessels, meanwhile, are an eclectic mix of gigs, skiffs, Chinese dragon boats, Hawaiian war canoes, Viking longboats, Irish curraghs, shallops, wherries and whalers. The race start time depends entirely on tides, but 2012's event is expected to kick off at 10.30am at Millwall Riverside, Westferry Rd, E14. Traditionally, the route passes Tower Bridge, Westminster Bridge and ends at Ham House, Richmond.
