Now in its fourth year, this fair brings Africa’s vibrant art scene to the wings of Somerset House. The title is a reference to the continent’s 54 nations, and over 50 galleries exhibit. There’ll also be a few stand-out projects in the fair’s programme, including a solo show of Malian artist Malick Sidibé’s photography, and a site-specific installation by South African artist Alexandra Karakashian.

Of all the art fairs and events happening last week, 1:54 was by far the most interesting and surprising. A great selection of fantastic works by contemporary African artists and none of the hyper-inflated prices that seemed to dominate the other fairs that week. This is the show you go to to discover new talent. You will be amazed by the diversity of techniques and materials used by the artists represented in this show, not to mention their immense creativity and originality.
