London’s 34 bridges aren’t just there to stop you falling in the Thames – their groundbreaking designs and robust engineering have been instrumental in establishing the capital as a world leader in urban architecture. As the pictures below show, they also serve as a reassuring constant in a city that’s transforming at an ever dizzying speed. Find out more about the history of the city’s river crossings at the Museum of London Docklands’ exhibition ‘Bridge’, which runs until November 2.
