Damien Hirst, 'Pharmacy', 1992 - © Damien Hirst & Science Ltd.
At his best Damien Hirst speaks to our incomprehension in the face of life's great mysteries. All that meat and medicine, suspended in tanks or lined up on shelves, is really just a formalisation of futility. To the subjects of life and death all the artist can bring is a sense of order and containment that only a madman would mistake for control. The abiding impression is that Hirst's first major UK survey tells us what we already know but doesn't quite get the measure of its subject. And that's a disappointment however you slice it. Tackiest, most overrated con-artist of all time.
Calling a con an artist? it's just not fair. Making money off stupidity? well it's pretty common.
Went yesterday and we both really enjoyed it. It's different and is thought provoking. We are not art nuts and are not usually in to modern art but it was a couple of hours well spent. Thought I would post a review as everyone else seems negative but art has to be different to keep us thinking
Literally Garbage!!! Talentless artist pandering to the sycophants and laughing all the way to the bank.. Glad I am a member and didn't cost me anything.. Go see a proper artist work Lucien Freud
Timeout has a bug aggregating reviews. It doesn't count zero stars. So I've rated this a one, though it deserves less. The Hirst bubble has burst.
Not a fan of Damien Hirst AT ALL, simply don't consider him an artist as he doesn't produce any of his own work. However I'm a Tate members so thought I should go anyway and judge the work properly. Pretty awful, boring and self-indulgent as I expected. Worth exploring if you are rich or can use a mate's membership just to experience it, otherwise not worth wasting money on.
Even the tate gallery assistant/guardian agreed when I made a sarcastic comment about it not really being his work within earshot! Go and see Kusama instead!
Took my kids there over half term, thought provoking for sure. Severed cow head with congealed blood with flies was definitely something my kids talked about. Lots of cigarettes, pills etc. Nothing I would want to own or have hanging on my wall. Glad I went but I wouldn't want to see it again.
Went to see this exhibition yesterday and what a waste of time and money. I'll never get that hour of my life back. I can't believe people pay vast sums of money for such tripe. It's all very 'emperors new clothes'
Save your time and money and go watch some grass grow instead.

Radio 4 had a program on yesterday afternoon featuring Hirst, discussing YBA, Hirst, modern art, Hirst, Andy Warhol, Hirst, Saatchi, and more Hirst. At the time I thought it odd that Damien "Never-Knowingly-Modest" Hirst would deign to appear on the radio for no obvious reason. Then a few minutes ago I saw on this site the upcoming exhibition at Tate - and it all fell into place as to why Hirst made himself available for interview.

He is so not an artist idiots pay vast sums for trash
