James Turrell: Recent Works
These three light installations from American artist James Turrell are undoubtedly impressive. They are also immaculately put together. However, there is so little actual content as to make them a bit of a disappointment.
In each of two rooms on the ground floor, a simple false wall is flooded with coloured light, creating the appearance of a portal to another realm. In a third room upstairs, the same effect is achieved but the light subtly changes colour. It’s the sort of thing that would be really impressive in a smart office reception or luxury hotel lobby, but in the gallery setting it falls a little flat.
