Unsettlingly eerie paintings by the Belgian artist. In his typical muted tones and washed-out paint application, Tuymans’ latest work brings together strange portraits and inexplicable interiors and landscapes. Often using found imagery from magazines to paint from, Tuymans has sourced imagery from the Internet or his own smart phone, which is then re-photographed multiple times to create distance from the original and enhance their enigmatic quality.
