This bar contains a new gin distillery, the first to open in the City of London since the time of Hogarth and his infamous illustration, ‘Gin Lane’ (1751). Gin drinking was at its peak in the 18th century, a result of low cost, and availability – there were around 1,700 distilleries in the capital at that time. The two copper stills, producing City of London Dry Gin, can be seen (behind glass) in the subterranean room, which also operates as a bar. On our visit there was no evidence of ruined mothers, but there was a huge selection of gin brands at the bar – and, by chance, a coterie of actors in 18th-century costumes. The rest of the time it’s a fairly ordinary-looking, low-ceilinged basement bar, with the gin stills the main talking point.

I agree with the reviewer below definitely in my top three bars I've visited. I can highly recommend its atmosphere.

One of the finest bars I've visited. I went here one evening with my partner we are both gin lovers. Boy were we spoilt for choice. We sat at the bar tasting a selection of gin mixes and cocktails whilst watching and chatting to the wonderful cocktail waiter, taking in the friendly atmosphere of the most charming surroundings. We were impressed by the professional and tentative staff. We left on a high, a little tipsy ! Can't wait to return.
