El Camion

El Camion is Mexican-themed but, unlike the kitsch Baja Californian restaurant above – where you can corral generous burritos, tortas and tacos – it’s more a discerning basement drinking den where Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) iconography sits above a series of snugs.

The drinks are overseen by maestro mixologist Dick Bradsell, there’s swift and smiling table service, and it’s open late. With 38 different bottles covering blanco (white), reposado (‘rested’) and añejo (‘aged’), it’s a temple to tequila. You can sip the better ones neat, but it’d be remiss to ignore the marvellous margaritas, of which Tommy’s Margarita is the pick.

Mezcal is also well represented, alongside several rum daiquiris and cachaça-driven batidas; bottled Mexican beers include Pacifico Clara, Bohemia and Negra Modelo.

I don't normally write reviews... But this place deserves a mention. The food is actually ok, but they REALLY need to sort out their service. It was abysmal. Waited over an hour for food to arrive, then 10 minutes after the food arrived we were told that we needed to move to a new table because the one we were on had been booked out. They really need to sort our their service and speed up how long it takes for the food and drinks to arrive.

Been to this place twice. I have to say the second time was better than the first. We had a terrible experience the first time (which was about 3 years ago now) but ended up there with some friends again recently. The food is good, but completely overpriced for what it is. The mains don't come with much and you have to end up ordering sides to fill you which bumps up the price. The impressive part is the hot sauces which line the wall. You can spend the whole night trying them which as a hot hot heat fan I loved this part of the evening!

A group of us visited El Camion on Saturday night. Having read mixed reviews I was unsure of what to expect. We were extremely disappointed, and I would strongly recommend trying somewhere else. The main problem was the service, they forgot to cook two of our mains, and instead of being apologetic that two of us would be eating after the other six, and gave no explanation. When we asked whether we could have a complementary drink to make up for us eating separately we were met with a very rude response and then ignored by the waitress for the rest of the evening whilst not very subtly making rude remarks . When our food eventually did arrive it was bland, tasteless and stodgy. Really disappointing. I have given the one star for the Margarita which was good, but otherwise I would avoid. Don't go here if you want good authentic Mexican food, with friendly service!

I had a great night here last Saturday, the staff were very friendly and were able to accommodate our party of 7 at short notice. I shared beef nachos which were delicious and are a generous portion, for main I had the grilled chicken burrito which was yummy and I recommend having it 'wet' I rounded the meal off with pecan pie for desert. I was impressed by their range of cocktails and enjoyed a coconut bastidas, which was similar to a pina colada. The décor was interesting and the array of hot sauces from around the world were fun to try with dinner! All in all I think this is a lovely spot for Mexican food and very reasonable in price!

I have been here a few times now, for a private party, midweek late-night, and Friday night with a friend. Never been disappointed by the superb cocktails and always been made welcome by the thoroughly charming staff. The booths are great, but the best seats are at the bar.

I went to the basement bar many times, but last time a prick at the door wouldn't let us in with the excuse that it's for "members" only. thank you very much!

Far too expensive for what you get. Essentially a fast food restaurant for top dollar. I ordered the platter for sharing it cost £25 and was worth £10 max as this was starter size. The margaritas were £8 this was expensive for what you got especially in a small plastic cup. Don't go here!

I went here on halloween and had a really good night. I'm a bit of a cheap skate so I thought it would be too pricey for me. At first I stuck to the tequila (around £3.50 cheapest) which was actually really nice and good fun with friends and in the end had a cocktail which was moderately priced (£8.50) compared to some london bars and It was awesome. All the staff were really friendly and dressed up. Even managed to have a dance later in the evening. Definitely want to go back.

I have to say this was a big disappointment. Getting in was a trauma, then we were told we couldn't just use the bar we had to order food as well, which was only so so. From the review on here it sounds like an easy going happy place but it was surprisingly stiff and dull.

I went to their basement bar The Pink Chihuahua on Thu night & i loved the place. Only happy smiley friendly people & supppper great cocktails :) :) They were sooo yummm & perfect. I was hounoured to have Espresso Martini from the man who invented it :) :) Bar staff is wonderful!!!! And drinks were made very fast :) & i drank them fast haha . Thank you so much & i will be back there sooooon ;) :) x

bland bland bland! I was really excited about my trip to El Camion but i was left underwhelmed. The service was good and they meals came in a reasonable time frame but the quality of the dish was just terrible, as my mother is mexican I know what the homeland food should taste like and this was not it unfortunately but I will not give up on my quest to find a genuine Mexican restaurant in London

TERRIBLE. Avoid this place. I invited 20 friends to celebrate in the downstairs bar after talking to the staff there a week before and being told they don't make reservations on Fridays and I should just arrived early. I arrived at 7 and was told by the manager it's fully booked. After having a discussion with him, he agreed to let us stay in the top floor. But after 10, some of my friends were not let inside anymore by the same rude lady NRYP mentioned, saying the place it over capacity (it wasn't. they haven't really checked). To top it all, I ordered a bottle of their home tequila because I thought it would be cheaper than buying shots for everyone. Only after my order I found out ordering the same amount (700cc) of tequila with individual shots of the same brand, would cost me 20 Pounds less. I will never return there, and I recommend to avoid it.
