Time Out says

3 out of 5 stars

By-the-slice pizza and tropical cocktails in bizarre, communist-themed surrounds.

A communism-themed pizza joint may well be a ridiculous idea, but the folks behind Guerrilla deserve credit for committing to the theme. Oil drums act as high tables, there’s army netting on the ceiling and propaganda posters paper the wall at this eccentric bar. But the red-hued daftness is only just beginning.

Like the house cocktails, the names of most of the pizzas riff on the names of political poster boys, from The Supreme Leader (extra cheese) to The Comrade Corbyn (a dainty vegetarian number) and The Mad Mao (brisket, barbecue sauce and jalapenos, ‘hot tempered and brutal’).

All are served by the slice or the 20-inch whole, and, there are free t-shirts for anyone who can finish the latter on their own. Bases are crisp and toppings plentiful, but – like the syrup-heavy drinks – also oddly sweet. Nobody’s pretending this is authentic Italian fare, but that doesn’t change the fact that you can order a better pizza through an app.

Then there’s the prices. Drop in before 8pm, Monday-Thursday, and all cocktails and pizzas are two for one. At these prices, (£3 per paper cup of cocktail, £2.20 a slice) it’s easier to see Guerrilla as a fun novelty venue with no time for trends. At any other time of day, the heavy theming and sugary sustenance is just all a bit too sickly.
