The perfect evening ending (or beginning) to time spent on the heath, this fabulous old local – the King William IV, or King Willy to those with longer memories – attracts a very Hampstead crowd (read: well-off and ready for fun). On summer weekends, the cute little beer garden tends to fill up with a mix of gay and straight punters keen to put down their shopping bags. The pub is more popular with lesbians in summer too, as a stop-off after a dip in the heath’s women’s bathing pond.
