This is a good pub for the area and I end up here often. There are some significant downsides, however. The beer, a good and rapidly rotating selection of real ale, is horribly expensive and can be £4.50 a pint - well overpriced. The food is fine, but nothing special and seemingly from a caterer as my local serves exactly the same - if you're a veggie you'll probably want to go elsewhere if you want an interesting choice.

Tucked away in a small mews, its proximity to the Royal Albert Hall makes this busy pub the favourite destination for prommers. Its off-street location also provides a much-needed alfresco, cobbled drinking space; inside is a combination of rough-and-ready wooden tables with a chandelier overhead. Among students of the nearby Royal College of Music, it's known as 'The Nines' - there are 98 practice rooms at the college, this pub is affectionately regarded as the ninety-ninth.

Adequate for a drink but mediocre, industrial food. The 'half Sussex chicken' was less than a quarter of re-heated dessicated bird with stale, frozen chips. We were told (in none too convivial a manner) that it is house policy to only serve the burgers well-done, i.e. overcooked and tasteless. Hard to imagine a sadder meal or a more disappointing night out.
Went there yesterday before the Human League played at the Albert Hall. Nice old fashioned pub. We had booked a table, which was just as well as it got very busy. There is no separate dining section, which is a pain, but the pub is quite small. We ordered our food and was told it would be a 45 min wait, which we found odd. When it came after 20, we were pleasantly surprised. They brought half the order but the other half was wrong. Turned out, they got the table orders mixed and ours was for the table next to us-there are no table numbers or names The upshot was, that we had to wait about 25 mins for the rest of the order, by which time half of our table had finished eating. The food was OK. The table next to us got a full refund and although we did not expect to get this a gesture would have been nice. When we enquired, we were told no, as we were told about the mix up-which we weren't. Would I go back? No. The pub itself was nice but the staff unfriendly and the food average. A shame, as its in a marvelous position.
