I used to live at Strand on the Green until I got married 46 years ago but come back to see my mother who still lives around there. We always take Mum for a meal at the City Barge and cannot fault the food. The last time we were there the towpath was flooded, good job there's a back entrance!

What a great little gem of a pub on the river Thames. It's the kind of place that does exactly what it says on the tin. We were there on Sunday and the place was packed. People were strewn over the towpath, some sitting on the actual riverside because there were no tables left. The staff were rushed off their feet but they did not fail to be welcoming or have a smile on their faces. Every time I was served at the bar I was made to feel like they really wanted me there. There was a long wait for food, but when there are that many mouths to feed then that is understandable, these people are only human. I had a chicken burger which was great! I'd imagine that this is the kind of place that people flock to when the sun comes out, but on cold wintry days I'd imagine it would be nice to sit inside near one of the fireplaces they have. I will certainly be returning. IPA also under £3 a pint! unheard of in these parts. well done!
