St James'

If you are looking for a single, mind-blowingly strong, heartbreakingly delicious cocktail, in surroundings designed for talking rather than shouting, you’ve come to the right place. Dukes is one of London’s true classic bars, and justly famous for the theatrical presentation of martinis created on a tray brought out specially for you. But don’t neglect the rest of the list: the level of cocktail skill here is phenomenal. The drinks are among the most expensive in the city, but the bar snacks are fabulous. Take your drinks date through the cobbled streets of St James’s to Duke’s and you won’t fail to impress.

If you’re a martini drinker there is surely only one place to go in London and that’s to Duke’s. Often Hotel bars are to be avoided but it’s the polar opposite with this quaint, yes quaint, but in the best possible way, drinking institution. For one, it gave Fleming the idea for 007’s fav tipple, but more importantly it’ll be the best money you’ve ever spent on a drink, especially if you get martini maestro Alessandro Palazzi to concoct your drink from his trolley at your table.
