When I first moved to London (10 years ago from the heart of the country: Wolverhampton) I was all about hitting the clubs in central London to impress my Midlands companions back home. So many nights spent ("spent" being a key work here...more like overspent!) in key tourist hotspot nightclubs in Picadilly, Leicester Square and many other camera filled areas (cameras...remember them?!). It took me a good 3 years to realise...this is not cool, this is not the true London. Then I started to venture outside the zone 1 area: Stockwell, Clapham, Greenwich (I'm South of the river girl) UNTIL I FOUND THIS BEAUTY! The Old School Yard: Cocktails, Retro, Music from all eras and not a tourist in sight (I love tourists but we all need our breaks from them sometimes). Fantastic locals fill the joint, with the most fun, caring and enthusiastic bar staff. In one night you can drink your posh nosh cocktails and still get a few unclassy beers down your neck. In one night you can dance your booty to Beyonce, sing out to Oasis and strut your uncle's dance moves to James Brown! In one night you can chat, play retro games and still have to limp home from too much dancing. Also what I love about this place is that its small ("Cosy" is a better word for it) where by the end of the night you may have befriended everyone in the joint. With todays push towards 90's fashion its time to put down your cassette players and bad floral tops and head on down to the real deal! Long live this Old School Yard on Long Lane!

The Old School Yard is a London Bridge party bar where the cocktails keep flowing and the tunes are turned up loud. Expect after work happy hour, karaoke and entertainment aplenty at this fun bar with a camp as you like school disco theme. Just as retro is The Old School Yard's Wii nights, where arm swinging is absolutely encouraged.

I’ve had some great nights at The Old School Yard. Great place, great people, great drinks, great music what else could anyone ask for (I haven’t found any place that sells a better Cosmopolitan!!)
Cannot think of a better bar to have fun in, retro games to play, great music, cool staff, best happy hour for cocktails, my personally favourite is Pisco sour
After coming here for a birthday party and loving it we returned two more times in as many months- really good fun. However when a gift bag of birthday presents vanished from our table, i asked darren (the owner) whether it had been handed in- his sarcastic response 'well let me turn the music off and kick everyone out for your bag'- was unhelpful considering as a group of 20 we had spent hundreds on the bar. When I told him this, he took me outside and said 'i will help you look for it, even though you're being a bitch'. My boyfriend and random people who had witnessed the conversation were disgusted by him, and he soon ran away when these people confronted him. His own staff couldn't have been more apologetic and embarrassed.
He was unapologetic- until he discovered my boyfriend's occupation could cause trouble for him- at this point he apologised and booked and paid for our taxi. I would never go back here- that guy is clearly not coping, and it put a really bitter end to the night. The bag also mysteriously reappeared as we were on our way out- despite everyone (including darren) having looked for it. Staff also mentioned that there is increasing trouble there. AVOID !!
