Bars & Pubs

  • Florence

  • The proprietors of this light, airy pub stirred some local antagonism when they took over the space vacated by dank old sports bar Ganleys. Though you may no longer be able to catch Sky Sports here, you can pore over the match reports in the Sunday papers while enjoying burgers from the open kitchen and interesting beers (it's a genuine free house, with tasting notes on every pump; we recommend Meantime's Kölner lager). Proximity to Brockwell Park and Brixton Beach - the Lido - means that the Florence has been colonised by families. But there's enough space amid its cowhide banquettes, conservatory and seemingly endless beer terrace for everyone to enjoy a visit. And those copper vats aren't for show: they pump out an above-average bitter called Weasel, brewed on the premises.

Just got back from sunday brunch - friendly staff, comfy sofa, pleasant music and a great veggie breakfast. we were the first ones in, so might have expected a sense of 'warming-up', but no. Lovely creamy scrambled eggs, great veggie sausages. Good work!!!

I love this Pub. I met the love of my life here and we are now engaged! We had our engagement party here and will probably call our children Florence!
Seriously does not have a chain pub feel at all and it has the best food and staff going! I am their No1 fan!

I completely disagree with David. Lovely pub, lots of different areas so you can choose to be with kids or not. Food is fantastic - although we are all eagerly awaiting autumn and the return on the pumpkin chilli!

Highly overrated and pretentious chain pub. Currently upgrading characterless beer garden with facilities to accommodate more children. Try the Commercial or Prince Regis instead.
