It's hard not to like the current incarnation of this landmark flatiron corner pub, with its inspired chaos of retro-eccentric decor and warm, inclusive atmosphere. It seems to have escaped the attentions of the necking-it after-work masses: we can't help wondering if this is something to do with the absence of wall-to-wall lager pumps. Instead, there are four hand pumps offering the likes of Black Sheep and Old Rosie scrumpy, an esoteric bottled collection including Weston's organic cider and a fine collection of sprits (though no cocktail list). The bar itself celebrates the senses rather than sousing them: it's made up of colourful art deco tiles; there's a distinct decorative playfulness throughout, most obvious in stagey lighting, a multiplicity of wallpapers and, upstairs (a lovely room with its own bar), a wall of teacups and saucers. A great example of how a historic pub can be quite lit up with new life.

Great selection of drinks, however the landlord and landlady are truly awful. Rude doesn't really cover it.
Love this place since I stumbled randomly into it on Sunday afternoon. A great haven after the bustle of Brick Lane with good beer on tap. I don't get the complaints about the staff either. Whenever I've been in there, they've been lovely and chatty. There have also been the occasional clusters of East End geezer-types clearly oblivious to how their local has been camped up around them.
Love it.
This bar (not pub class) is just round the corner from our office, so we do end up drinking their quite often. Fantastic decor, great vibe. One big bug bear that puts us off though - the staff. Never have you met ruder bar staff, they react to the request for a drink as though you have just insulted their mother.. Better off at the Golden Heart.
Amazing place! Great ciders and design. Too bad it closes at 11pm...
what a relief from the uberupitsself bars of shoreditch; a proper boozer with bells on. a proper down to earth pub with great service. the design deserves an award, in fact the whole place deserves a Grade 1 listing!!!.
