Tucked away in the corner of an archetypal, residential Georgian square is this delightful, traditional, Shepherd Neame pub, which wouldn't be out of place on the edge of a village green and is frequented by the local hobnobbing media gentry. Well kept inside and out, the pub has flower boxes along the front window, while the walls of the snug and cushioned interior are lined with Victorian adverts for things like St Jacob's Oil and framed portraits of 19th-century cricketers, with cricket a subtle but definite theme here. Suitably English, the beers at the dinky bar are Spitfire and Kent's Best, with additional seasonal ales on rotation.
