Bars & Pubs

  • Tooting Tram & Social

  • The people behind the much-loved Balham Bowls Club have transformed this vast former warehouse and - you guessed it - tram shed into a bar that's intimate and incredibly eclectic. A birdcage filled with fairy lights and six gloriously grandiose chandeliers dangle from up on high, while funky fabrics soften the tile-clad walls. To drink there's a selection of not-too-inspiring wines and a simple list of cocktails. Timothy Taylor Landlord is the sole hand-pulled beer, but Grolsch Weizen makes a tasty accomplice. Peckish? There are only fancy snacks for the moment, but plans are afoot for a restaurant on the mezzanine. And when you tire of gawping at the decor, there are occasional DJs, bands, art exhibitions and the odd burlesque show.

I agree that the place is beautiful and I actually found the bar staff very pleasant. My problem with the place was the door staff. They were incredibly rude and aggressive with my friend (a 5ft blonde) for using her phone on the stairs. When they decided to throw her out (for asking whether signs could be put up to warn people not to use the phone) we left with a very bad taste in our mouth. They were overzealous and actually caused greater disquiet and upset a lot more people than the original "offence" warranted.
    What a shame.

I have lived in Tooting for a few years and this is definitely the best thing that's happened to it in terms of bars/pubs. The space is amazing, and the decor is excellent. Also the staff are friendly and unpretentious, which is appropriate for Tooting and I hope it stays that way. It would be better still if they did food hence 5 not 6 stars.

Amazing - an excellent bar and exactly what the hip element of Tooting have been crying out for!
Could do with some more pulled beers, however the choice of bottled beers makes up for it.
It will be an addition however I don't know whether they need to start serving food - the place works as a bar in its own right.
