Below the fringe theatre of the same name sits this old-school boozer. There's an etched glass partition dividing the saloon from the public bar, and an impressive roster of draught beers: take your pick from Staropramen, Leffe, San Miguel, Broadside, Tetley's and Sussex Best (among others), and settle into a retro, green velour booth. Early in the week it can be disconcertingly quiet (regulars looking up from their pints, freaky fairground music), but post-show, at weekends and for sporting fixtures (there's a large screen), this is a buzzy, unpretentious alternative to the Upper Street chains.

This is one of the greatest pubs in London. The mix of clientele is sometimes as surreal as can be, thanks to the big screen (well...sail) used to show the football and the wonderful fringe theatre venue upstairs. There is no food, but the dazzling array of nuts and snacks on offer more than makes up for it (don't ask the bar staff what they have unless you have a spare half hour). The staff are all friendly and are more than willing to give you the time of day, and the landlord seems to have a strange fixation with Van Morrison (which noone can work out is a good thing or bad)...
A true gem and welcome antidote to Upper Street.
luvvies, old men, scenesters, sports fans, goths and inexplicably large groups of IT workers throng together in this classic london boozer. there's always characters and entertainment and that's not just in the theatre... Great choice of ale, friendly bar staff, and, if you're lucky, bobby.
