London's best review, food and drink news
Squatting between taller buildings, this Grade II-listed pub seems quaintly proportioned, but through the comfy main bar there are a sparsely furnished saloon bar, a further upstairs room and a walled back garden. Amid the handsome etched glass and dark wood, gorgeous bright green tiles along a side corridor really stand out, but the pub is no museum piece: a mix of campus renegades and collared locals, with a nearly rowdy guitar-band soundtrack, keeps thing lively. There were four real ales - Nelson Brewery's Trafalgar Bitter and Nethergate's Suffolk County the rarities - and ten wines, all by glass and bottle, but no menus in evidence at 8.30pm. Has King Eddie scaled back the gastro ambitions? We hope not.
